Literally got the cable 20 minutes ago. Superbly well made, good construction and materials…feels like a quality item.
Read your paper on burn in first and knew that the cables need 4-500 hours or so time on them to fully become as good as they can be. My original intention was to fit RCA/XLR adapters which I bought for the purpose, plug the Dig-4 into my tuner and just leave it playing white noise.
Curious though how it sounded "out of the packet" compared to my DH Labs D-10 (with its "Ultimate" in house XLR connectors…)
Your cable is an order of magnitude better Mike, even with no burn in! What is this, some kind of Kentucky voodoo?!
Overall impression is the digital cable gets out the way of the music a LOT better. Much more music is coming through, subjectively louder but specifically:
- Drums, brass, vocals, cymbal crashes all have a crispness and timbre I’ve not heard in my system before.
- Soundstage is far more "real" sounding in both timbre of instruments and voices as well as scale.
- I’m hearing details (albeit you can tell they are "smudged" and will clear up once burn in is complete) that I’ve never heard before on tracks I’ve been listening to for 20 odd years.
You can really get an idea of the potential of this cable, even now.
I run a 300B SET system with active preamp, and I’m hearing far more of what a SET amp SHOULD be doing than I was before with my previous digital cable. I was considering getting a new music streamer (My Logitech Transporter is superb, but old tech) but now not a chance! Also, I recently got some high end UK based speaker cable (Tellerium Q Ultra Black) which apparently majors in bass depth and control…never heard what they were talking about. Whats the fuss says I? Put your Dig-4 cable in and BOOM. Where did that bass come from!
The important part Mike is that all this good "hifi" stuff is secondary to the music, the tune grooves along way better than before and music is far more addictive. I was reading a book and listening to music before the cable was delivered, put the cable in and I cant concentrate on it anymore. Seriously.
All this with ZERO burn in on the cable.
As I said my original plan was to burn the cable in separately and listen to music with my existing digital XLR cable. Not any more. The Dig-4 stays in for the great improvements it brings even now. Sure, the sound will go up and down over the next few hundred hours, but who cares! J
BASED ON WHAT IVE HEARD IN THE FIRST TEN MINUTES OF YOUR DIG-4 CABLE MIKE, I’LL BE ALL MY UPGRADING MY INTERCONNECTS TO MA4 POSSIBLY 5 LATER IN THE YEAR.
Bravo Sir, And thanks for enhancing my musical pleasure.
